THE ISLAND
Lefkada is the fourth in size island in the Ionian Sea in Greece and it is located close to the coast of Aitoloakarnania. The main sources of wealth are tourism, oil production, viticulture and fishing. Near Lefkas are the small islands of Meganissi, Sparta, Scorpios ( the famous island of Onassis ), Arkoudi, Atokos, Kastos and Kalamos. Levkas was named Holy Black (Santa Maura), a name that it was taken by the church of Agia Mavra, built by the Franks in the 13th century in the homonym fortress.
The island has, in the 2011 census, 22,652 residents andVasiliki has 413 inhabitants.
VASILIKI
Vasilki is located on the south coast of the island. The destination attracts thousands of visitors from Greece and all over the world every summer. The green mountains blend in with the crystal blue waters of the sea which widely hugs the anchorage of the resort, boasting a unique U shaped beach that is considered to be one of the best windsurfing spots in the Mediterranean.
